A board member raised concern that the town had to use $200,000 from its fund balance to 'save ourselves' in 2026 despite a large 2025 capital purchase. "In 2025, we spent almost we spent a $149,483," the member said, asking how that amount was accounted for in 2026 and why the 2026 budget still required additional funds.
Staff and other board members acknowledged the need for a deeper line-item review to reconcile one-time expenses, ongoing commitments and budget-year accounting. The Chair and staff agreed to include fund-balance reconciliation and line-item expense origins in the material to be circulated before the next meeting so the board can see where prior capital spending appears in subsequent budget years.
