Board proclaims August 2026 Child Support Awareness Month after child support office report

Dionne Fortner of the Johnston County Attorney's Office presented an overview of Child Support Services, noting the office averaged 4,874 open cases in 2025-26, established 319 new child support orders during the fiscal year, and collected "$15,465,078.69" in child support. Fortner described agency staffing and casework, including 13 child support agents assigned to establishment and enforcement duties and several long-tenured employees.
Commissioner Pace Davis read the proclamation recognizing the importance of child support and outreach, and the board adopted the proclamation by motion. Fortner said the agency focuses on establishing "right-sized orders" to align realistic support obligations with families' ability to pay so that orders are enforceable and provide stability.
The board encouraged public awareness and outreach to reinforce parental responsibility and to support the professionals who establish and enforce orders for Johnston County children.
