The Monte Sereno Youth Commission agreed on Aug. 12 to participate in the citywide picnic on Sunday, Aug. 24, by operating a staffed booth with games and activities aimed at outreach and recruitment, Acting Chair Yohan Jacob said at the meeting.
City staff outlined logistics and recommended the commission provide a game and informational materials. "This year's picnic is being hosted on Sunday, August 24," the city clerk said, noting the City Council adopted and budgeted the picnic earlier in the year. Staff told commissioners that licensed vendors will handle food service and that the commission's role would focus on a booth offering games, giveaways and information about the commission.
Commissioners described booth ideas that include a prize-based game and face painting for children; staff offered to supply a canopy, tables, chairs, a banner and some materials and said the city has budget available to purchase additional items. The commission gave direction to staff to proceed and asked staff to email follow-up details and coordinate volunteer availability; no formal motion or vote was recorded.
The booth plan is intended to serve both as community outreach and as a recruitment tool for future commission openings. Staff said they will purchase candy and face-painting supplies and will send logistics information to commissioners ahead of the picnic.
