Sheriff authorized to apply for $200,000 COPS grant to expand drone program

The court authorized the sheriff (S9) to seek a COPS FY2026 Community Policing Development microgrant to support the sheriff’s drone program. The sheriff said past applications used this program and that the likely award is around $200,000 for a 24-month project with no local match required.
The court approved the authorization on a unanimous vote and asked the sheriff to provide application materials to the court clerk for routine filing. The sheriff said intent to apply must be filed by Aug. 17 and the full application by Aug. 24.
