City leaders on July 28 credited a coordinated city effort and local workforce training for helping land the Mint Group investment that broke ground in the region this week.
"What a great day yesterday," Mayor Ford said at the council meeting as he thanked city employees, the Economic Development Association, and the Mint Group delegation. Jeremy Coulter, managing director of North America for the Mint Group, told the council the visiting Chin family and Mint leadership "were ecstatic" about the visit and praised local staff: "Thank you so very much." The mayor and council repeatedly thanked David Hooks and other staff for expedited coordination with state and federal partners that the mayor said "helped fast track" approvals.
Council members framed the project as one of the largest local economic developments in decades and repeatedly cited workforce training at Gadsden State Community College as a key asset in recruiting advanced manufacturing operations. Councilwoman Latham and others urged continued focus on preparing residents for new jobs created by the facility.
The council used the proclamations and recognitions portion of its meeting to acknowledge public-safety and public-works teams who supported the visit; Police Executive Services leader Dusty Ford described the motorcade and introduced officers and interagency partners who volunteered for the operation. Mayor Ford also invited municipal staff involved in event logistics to the podium to thank them for coordinating the hangar reception and program.
