Captain Matt Morris said a recent power outage revealed dead radio zones inside the corrections facility. He reported Motorola engineers recommended mounting a new antenna at the jail and moving the repeater to eliminate dead areas and reduce reliance on generators.
"Our proposal is $7,945.81," Morris said, describing the Motorola quote for mounting the antenna, coax and related work. Commissioners discussed whether 911 funds could be used and whether the work should be funded via a budget amendment; staff noted the radios do not transmit to central monitoring from inside the jail without the repeater functioning.
Morris and other staff also estimated replacing the generator would cost approximately $8,000–$9,000. Commissioners asked staff to obtain final vendor pricing and to place the item on the Tuesday agenda for formal consideration and possible budget amendment.
