Pierson debate over homecoming parade route centers on school access and parking

Jessica, the parade organizer, told the council the tentative homecoming parade would be Oct. 16 (with an alternate date of Oct. 2) and would start at 12:45 p.m. with an early school release at noon. She asked the council to approve road closures and said she would submit the required FDOT paperwork.
Council members and residents discussed how to ensure elementary school students could view the parade and raised concerns about parking and safety if the route extends through parts of town with few spectators. Some residents urged keeping the route short so children could see the event; others noted the park and highway parking could be used. Mayor Gray Leonard said the town needs a definite date to arrange DCSO traffic support and told the organizer to email staff when the date is finalized. "We'll need to know a definite date a little bit ahead of time so we can get DCSO to help us out with traffic," the mayor said.
The council did not change the proposed route at the meeting and asked the organizer to return with finalized paperwork and a confirmed date so road-closure logistics and staffing can be arranged.
