CMP Advanced Mechanical seeks 14,000 sq ft addition; commission schedules public hearing

Sarah Campbell, representing the applicant CMP Advanced Mechanical Solutions, outlined plans for a 14,000-square-foot addition to an existing electromechanical manufacturing facility at 159.5 North Griswold that would relocate raw-material deliveries to the front of the building and allow tractor trailers to load inside. She said two new overhead doors and a new curb cut at Bevere Street would improve circulation and reduce congestion at the rear of the site.

“CMP now has trucks for delivery that go out back, and they unload them outside in all weather conditions. So now they’re gonna be able to pull the tractor trailers in the building and unload with forklifts,” Campbell told the commission during the site-plan presentation. Staff noted the area of disturbance is under one acre, so no SWPPP is required but an urban runoff reduction plan (URP) will be submitted and engineering review is expected. Broome County had provided preliminary comments but no formal county sign-off had been received by the meeting.

Commissioners voted to treat the project as an unlisted SEQRA action, have the planning commission act as lead agency for environmental review, and to schedule a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. at the next meeting. The motions passed unanimously (5–0). The commission distinguished the SEQRA decision and the public hearing scheduling; formal site-plan approval will follow any required responses to county and staff comments.

Next steps: staff will circulate county and engineering comments when final, the applicant will supply requested plan clarifications (striping, curb cut detail), and the planning commission will revisit the project at the scheduled public hearing.
