The council interviewed Nancy Bean for an open seat on the Police Community Advisory Board. Bean said she worked 12 years as a police dispatcher (including in Essex), has long family ties to local schools and has led community activities such as a field-hockey scholarship and camps to fund it. She said she wants to help residents better understand police work and to increase engagement with communities who distrust police because of experiences in other countries.
"I think we need to work on that, definitely," Bean said of building trust with minority residents and other community groups; she outlined community outreach and education as priorities. After executive-session consideration the council moved to appoint Nancy Bean to the board for a term ending 06/30/2027; the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The Police Community Advisory Board provides a formal channel for resident feedback and community–police dialogue. Bean’s dispatch and community experience were cited as qualifications.
What happens next: Staff will notify Ms. Bean and update board membership records; the appointed term runs through June 30, 2027.
