Committee hears that TWRA entered leases without State Building Commission notice; DGS to train agencies on process

Chairman Hicks told the committee he learned the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency had been entering leases without presenting them to the State Building Commission. DGS officials said they have worked with TWRA to remind the agency of the requirement and will provide training to state agencies on the leasing process to reduce future errors.
"We have worked with them directly to remind them they need to come to us and obviously get before the state building commission," Deputy Commissioner John Hall said. Commissioner Andy Kidd added the department will roll out training to help agencies understand leasing requests and procedures and will address any additional unauthorized leases directly with those agencies.
Chairman Hicks asked whether the stream has investigated and confirmed there are no other agencies acting similarly; DGS said it had reviewed and would continue to address any instances found. The committee did not take formal enforcement action during the hearing but flagged the issue for follow‑up and training.
