Village officials presented the tentative 2025–26 budget and opened a public hearing on the tentative figures. The proposed levy increase of 4.5% would raise most households by roughly $40 to $70 annually, officials said, and the board plans to use approximately $207,000 from unappropriated fund balance to cover a gap created in part by higher fire department costs and the security contract.
The treasurer reported the village had about $830,000 at the end of the last audit and projects a reserve balance of approximately $600,000 after the budget adjustments. The board noted one bond payment of about $170,000 will be paid off this year, which reduces next year’s debt service. Trustees debated whether to reduce security hours or find other savings to avoid piercing the statutory tax cap but ultimately adopted the budget during the meeting.
