Department of Agriculture backs Cultivate reentry program with $500,000 request

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture highlighted Cultivate, a 10-year reentry program led by Joey Langford that provides agricultural training and workforce pathways for people with justice-system involvement. "Cultivate is celebrating their 10 year anniversary... It is a $500,000 grant and it's a cost increase that we also are advocating for on behalf of Cultivate," Commissioner Andy Holt said, asking the committee to consider the grant as part of the department's budget request.
Members from Williamson and other counties praised the program and asked how the requested funds would expand training and off-campus operations; the department said the funds would support expansion across the state with a goal to reach more counties and to partner with existing local services, including children's services and local health and workforce organizations. The department offered tours of the Ellington Ag campus and committed to additional written detail on program scaling if the committee requested it.
