Staff reported that the micromobility operator Spin currently deploys 104 scooters in Fort Myers and has requested permission to expand to 200 units citywide.
"They would now like to double the amount of scooters to 200," Steve Weathers said, noting good ridership but raising questions about what "citywide" would actually mean — whether scooters should be routed into Dunbar, Midtown or across MLK Boulevard. Members discussed geo‑fenced parking corrals, whether scooters have seated models for older riders, and that Councilmember Watkins Brown had safety concerns about crossings at MLK. Staff said there have been no police‑reported incidents to date and committed to check operational details with Spin before bringing a workshop item to council.
