Superintendent praises arts and CTE, urges lawmakers to address education funding

Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo used his announcements to spotlight recent student achievements across fine arts, career and technical education (CTE) and the district science fair, and to press state lawmakers about funding. He said Nacogdoches High School and McMichael Middle School performances and a large science-fair showing reflect strong student engagement and community support.
Trujillo also cautioned that the district continues to operate on funding and expense assumptions from 2019. "We are still operating on expenses and funding from 2019, that is what we are funded by," he said, and urged legislators to consider decisions that would allow the district to retain and attract quality personnel. He wished the community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year at the close of his remarks.
