The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approved a home-rule ordinance amending Article V of the county charter to establish a three-member Board of Elections and Registration, fulfilling a state mandate under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-40.1. The ordinance sets staggered initial terms, requires members to be county electors, and creates the position of an elections supervisor to administer registrations and elections beginning Jan. 1, 2025.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners during the Nov. 25 work session that "HB 581 did pass, County is automatically enrolled, put on Work Session, and unless you guys want to opt out, we don't have to do anything." The work session added Nancy Hoard, Valerie Lassiter and Crystal Walker to the Dec. 3 regular meeting agenda as recommended appointees; the board will set compensation and staffing in coordination with the county manager and the annual budget.
