Resident alleges mismanagement and targeted treatment; chairman denies wrongdoing

Warren Williams told the Board of Commissioners that he was speaking for many county citizens when he accused local leaders of mismanagement, retaliation and nepotism, and asked the commission to "do their job" and restore public trust. "It is not about race, color, gender, it is about human decency and respect and integrity," Williams said during the public-comment period.
Commissioner Damon Hoyte thanked Williams and said retaliation "will not be tolerated" and that he would investigate some of the claims. Chairman Charles Coffey addressed the accusations directly, denying any tax fraud and saying he has "only ever" filed a homestead on one property and does not have family members on the county payroll. "There is nothing that this county has that he wants or desires," Coffey said, adding he serves to "make the county a better place."
