Engineers present selective‑demo options for City of Palms Park; council leans to full demolition
Summary
A structural assessment laid out two selective‑demolition options and tradeoffs; staff noted selective demo would require reconstruction and could be costlier than full demolition. Council signaled a preference for complete demolition with salvage of historic pieces and directed staff to seek proposals and return with a formal vote.

John Leggy, assistant city manager, summarized Blott Engineering's structural assessment of the City of Palms Stadium and the options the consultant considered.
"There were three points that were highlighted in that meeting," Leggy said, and walked council through two selective‑demo options (a symmetrical cut and an expanded option) that would leave part of the structure in place. The consultant warned that selective demolition would expose interior concrete block and press‑box areas that would require reconstruction to close the building envelope and address electrical and MEP systems.
Leggy and staff noted an informal demolition estimate of about $1,000,000 for full demolition; the city and CRA each have about $500,000 that could be applied. Several council members argued selective demolition could be costlier and delay redevelopment; the chair said the council should proceed with complete demolition and "attempt to salvage whatever we can that's historical to be consolidated into the new project." Staff said they would solicit demolition proposals and return with a formal item for council action.
