Commission tables garbage-rate increase as staff studies in‑house service option

During the May 6 meeting Commissioner Jason Frost moved, and Commissioner Damon Hoyte seconded, to table a proposed garbage-rate increase so staff could research the cost of returning garbage service in‑house. The motion passed unanimously and no rate change was adopted.
County Manager Thomas Weaver said staff will analyze commercial and residential options and provide cost estimates for an in‑house service model and for contracted collection so commissioners can decide with more complete information. The item will return to the commission after staff completes that analysis.
