Commission tables Friendship Road LMIG bid decision; work session explores LMIG/local road assistance funding

The commission moved to table a vote on putting the Friendship Road LMIG project out to bid so commissioners and staff could review technical specifications and bid packets; the motion was made by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas and passed unanimously. Work session materials flagged the bid packets as recently received and recommended further review at the next work session before authorizing advertisement or award.
At the March 25 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county received a Local Road Assistance grant that "piggybacks off the LMIG grant," which will allow the county to address more roads. Weaver told commissioners McGlaun and about half of Smith Road had been resurfaced previously with stone in 2017 and will need rework; Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street required riprap repairs. Commissioners discussed possible T-SPLOST or regional funding options for Riverbend Road and agreed to continue the conversation with regional partners.
