Council approves Midtown sale amendment and $4.9M construction award for park parcel

The Fort Myers City Council on Jan. 5 authorized an amendment to the purchase-and-sale agreement with Midtown Catalyst LLC for roughly 9.84 acres of the former News-Press site and Old Fire Station No. 1 for $11,500,000, part of a multi-year Midtown redevelopment plan.
Separately, the council awarded ITB Parcel 15 in the amount of $4,895,617 to Vantage Construction Services LLC and authorized the mayor and city manager to execute the contract. Council members noted Vantage was the firm that completed the downtown pocket park and said the parcel award advances planned park projects that are part of the city’s master parks plan.
Both items passed with no recorded opposition. City staff said the Midtown transactions and park projects are part of a longer-term redevelopment agenda for the downtown area.
