The Mokena School District 159 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a contract with Malcor Roofing for a roofing restoration project at Mokena Elementary School that will cost no more than $184,000 and is scheduled for summer 2025. Anna Briscoe moved the motion and Mrs. Zielinski seconded; the roll-call vote returned seven ayes and no nays.
The finance committee had earlier heard from Tremco Roofing, where consultant Kevin Garmey described the complexity of roof systems during a briefing: "a roof is like an onion with lots of layers," he told trustees during the committee meeting. District officials said restoration was chosen after discussion of restoration versus full replacement. The superintendent's office and the chief school business official said additional project scheduling and contractor coordination details will be provided before work begins.
