During the Jan. 27 work session Robert Sumner, who lives on Lafayette Road and is involved with training at the former NSA compound, offered to host charity events and provide services to the county at no cost, saying he wanted to "give back to the community." Commissioners thanked him and noted opportunities to partner.
Department heads reported routine operational updates: recreation director Mordie Askew said basketball season is underway and baseball season is coming; parks staff are recruiting umpires and filling an open recreation position. Permit and code officer Samantha Hedgecoke discussed a planned spring festival and permit activity. County utilities replaced a control box and breaker at Well #4, appearing to resolve recent outages, and crews have completed hydrant locates and are raising some hydrants. Animal-control staff reported an increase in stray dogs and ongoing capture efforts. Public works reported two promotions (Toby to mechanic, Wes to foreman) and identified the water-tower floor as needing replacement.
