Work session debate over sheriff vehicles highlights staffing and fleet questions

County officials reviewed the sheriff’s fleet and debated whether to prioritize a truck or a sedan as replacements during the Dec. 23 work session.
County Manager Thomas Weaver provided an inventory and noted leased interceptors scheduled for return in 2027. Amanda Beaver, speaking from the sheriff’s office, clarified which units were in use and which were not. The county manager listed several vehicles by make and year (Tahoe; 2021 Ford F‑150; 2019 Ford F‑150; 2018 Ford F‑150; 2021 Dodge Charger; 2019 Dodge Charger; and three 2022 Interceptor SUVs) and said the county currently expects to need one vehicle after some leases end. Commissioner discussion focused on utility for EMS assistance and on whether current staffing levels justify replacement now; the commission did not place a vehicle purchase on the regular meeting agenda.
