Commission schedules first public reading of Board of Elections policy; clarifies supervisory recommendation process

The commission voted unanimously to schedule a first public reading of a proposed Board of Elections policy at an upcoming work session. Commissioner Timothy Biddle made the motion and Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded.
County Manager Thomas Weaver explained the process recorded in the work session discussion: the three‑member Board of Elections will bring one to three recommended candidates for an election supervisor, and the County Manager will assign the election supervisor. Weaver also noted the County Clerk, Lisa Bickel, is already certified and performing election duties currently. Commissioners discussed separation of duties and the operational role of the election supervisor versus the board's oversight role.
The motion scheduled the formal first reading; the commission will consider the policy for second reading at the Oct. 1 regular meeting if the board forwards recommendations and the packet includes the revised text.
