County launches audit of double‑trash accounts; commission allows business accounts at recycle center, tables compactor purchase

County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission that staff "are beginning to audit the garbage accounts with two trash cans, we found seventy-six that have an extra can, but they aren't paying for those extra trashcans." Weaver said staff will contact property owners to determine whether cans were left after tenants moved out or whether an administrative correction is needed.
At the Sept. 3 meeting the commission voted unanimously to allow businesses to establish accounts at the county recycle center after a motion by Commissioner Jason Frost and a second by Commissioner Gerald Douglas. A separate proposal to add a cardboard compactor at the recycle center was tabled until the next work session and will be returned for a vote if an agreement is available.
The county is using the audit to identify billing errors and to correct accounts where service was not adjusted after tenancy changes. The logistics and costs of adding a compactor will be discussed at the next work session if the administration provides an agreement for consideration.
