Residents press Fort Myers board for clearer data, independent testing and attention to Billy's Creek

Jennifer Hagen, a honeybee extension agent and resident who lives on Manual Branch, urged a systems approach that includes the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Southwest Florida Water Management District and Department of Health. She cautioned against asking children to clean the creek because of water-quality hazards and recommended independent third-party testing to complement city and volunteer sampling.
Wesley Turner, a long-time kayaker, urged attention not only to Manual Branch but also to Billy's Creek, which he described as foul-smelling and under-resourced. The board and staff acknowledged the comments and agreed to pursue better public communications, while staff reiterated the city's ongoing monitoring and planned data uploads to the public dashboard.
