City planning staff brief advisory board on comprehensive plan rewrite

Tony Palermo, Assistant Director of Community Development, briefed the Environmental Advisory Board on a comprehensive plan update the city has been developing with a consultant. Palermo said the city has pursued broad public input (surveys, workshops and university outreach), identified 14 plan elements and is focusing on future land use, recreation/open-space and conservation/coastal management elements relevant to this board.
Palermo invited input from the board and said drafts will start to go to the Planning Board in March or April with continuing public outreach. He emphasized that the comprehensive plan sets broad policy that is implemented through the city's land development code; staff said more targeted follow-up on conservation and wellhead protection policies could be part of subsequent drafts.
