The Kearney Park and Tree Board voted Nov. 19 to approve an updated park reservation fee schedule that raises several event charges and clarifies responsibility for lighting costs. Chair (speaker 1) called for a motion to approve the schedule; the motion was carried by voice vote after staff outlined the proposed changes.
Staff member (speaker 2) told the board the increases are intended to cover electricity and staffing costs associated with events. "That will help pay...help us pay with the lights for what they're being used and all the electricity that they use out there for that event," the staff member said, explaining the jump from $400 to $500 for rodeo/demo derby one-day events and a $50 increase for two-day events. The schedule also corrects a listing to charge teams $30 to reserve ball fields and adds a requirement that teams pay for ball-field lights when reserving the fields.
Committee members discussed enforcement steps, including adding contract language requiring groups to turn lights off at the end of events or face assessment. The board also reviewed amphitheater-related fees and a proposed $2,000 staffing/sound-technical fee that covers city technicians and staff time when the city sound system is used. Committee member (speaker 4) emphasized the value of on-site staff and equipment: "That equipment out there is is top notch. It's all digital. It's expensive equipment. We put a new cone in...$500 just for cone," underscoring the city's costs for maintenance and technical support.
Chair closed discussion and recorded the motion as approved by voice vote; Chair stated "Ali, 2nd by Jennifer" when confirming the motion and second. The fee schedule change was adopted at the meeting and will be incorporated into the park reservation agreement.
