Applicant describes 20,000-sq-ft freestanding emergency department plan; not an inpatient hospital

Staff presented a request to rezone 8.08 acres from RE-4 to ME-1 on 4th Foot Road in Myrtle Beach for a proposed 20,000-square-foot freestanding emergency department and a 15,000-square-foot doctor's office.
Dan Stacy, representing the applicant, said the proposed building would not be an inpatient hospital. "It's not an inpatient overnight facility. It's not a hospital. It's a freestanding ED," Stacy said. He and the project architect were present to answer commission questions. Staff noted part of the parcel's history (rezoned to RE-4 in 2005) and that the Forest Brook widening right-of-way acquisition has been completed for the property. The commission did not take final action at the workshop; the item will return for further consideration.
