Applicant says accessory dwelling on Bridal Road sought to care for elderly relative

At the Aug. 28 workshop, applicant Jennifer Pearson told the Horry County Planning Commission she is requesting rezoning of a 0.7-acre site on Bridal Road in Little River from CFA to SF-14.5 to permit an accessory dwelling for family care.
Pearson said the move is motivated by family health needs: "The reason we're requesting this is because my grandmother that currently lives in her own home in North Myrtle Beach, has recently fallen several times." She described the proposed unit as a concept with a bedroom, sitting area and bathroom and emphasized the intent is caregiving, not subdivision or financial gain. Staff noted the site lies outside a flood zone and that surrounding zoning includes CFA, SF-40, MSF-40 and SF-10 in the area. The commission took no final vote at the workshop; the item will return for continued consideration.
