Subcommittee approves expanded testing options for ESA schools
Summary

Chairman Slater returned to HB 1881 with timely amendments and said the bill would allow schools accepting ESAs to choose between TCAP and a nationally norm-referenced test. Slater said he welcomed amendments that "make the bill better" and the committee discussed eligibility expansions for districts with multiple priority schools.
Chairman Hicks described an amendment that would add additional school eligibility for ESAs based on the number of priority schools in a district in given years; Slater and members agreed the changes would "protect our schools, communities, and our family dollars across Tennessee." After member questions and clarifications, the subcommittee voted 8 ayes, 4 noes to advance the bill to full finance.
