Neighbors oppose outdoor storage rezoning and buffer waivers on Izzy Court; board denies buffer relief

An applicant who owns a nearby mobile home park asked to develop 3.09 acres on Izzy Court as an outdoor storage lot after receiving RE‑4 rezoning for that portion of the property. Jesse McKnight said he plans to fence and screen the storage area and rely on existing hedgerows and a canal buffer at the rear. "I've got a 20‑foot hedgerow. There's a canal there," he told the board, asking that existing vegetation be credited toward buffer requirements.
Several nearby homeowners said the area is residential in character and that vegetation they expected to block views had been removed; they expressed concern about seeing equipment, trailers and shipping containers from their backyards. "It is an eyesore," said one neighbor. The board voted each buffer relief item separately and defeated motions to waive the front, side and rear buffer requirements; the rear 15‑foot type‑A opaque buffer relief was also denied. Because those buffer variances were not granted, the applicant will need to retain or install required screening if the storage use proceeds under other approvals or conditions.
