The Finance, Ways and Means subcommittee voted 10-1 on April 15 to advance House Bill 17-08, which requires a driver's license applicant to be able to take, read and speak English, to the full finance committee.
The chair opened the driver's license calendar and described the measure; after a brief description the committee called the question and the clerk recorded 10 ayes and 1 no. The chair said, "House Bill 17 o 8 requires the applicant for a driver's license, to be able to take and read and speak English." The committee offered no further debate before voting to move the bill forward.
The bill was processed on the driver's license calendar alongside other measures; members were reminded that fiscal-focused questions should be directed to the finance aspects of bills. No amendment or fiscal note changes were recorded during the subcommittee's consideration.
