Lake Forest students showcase artwork for Youth Art Month at Deer Path

The Lake Forest School District 67 board heard student presentations from Deer Path Elementary as part of a Youth Art Month spotlight. Dr. Shin introduced teachers and students and noted that student artwork from the district has been exhibited at the Dandelion Gallery in Waukegan and the Adler Art Center in Libertyville.
Several students described their pieces and inspirations. "My name is Ashley Lautka, and this is my treehouse in space," one student said, explaining the planets and bright colors in her drawing. Another student, Julia Peltzer, introduced a dog portrait, saying she drew it "because I love that he has different colors of fur and his eyes are really pretty." Teachers told the board that 10 student artists from the school were selected for the 19th annual Emerging Artist Show and that winners will be recognized by the city's mayor on May 18.
The segment highlighted the district's arts programming and noted that student work will be on display in storefronts throughout Market Square in Downtown Lake Forest from April 4 through May 1. Board members thanked the students for participating and recognized the media arts and art-teaching staff for their role in preparing the exhibition.
