District 67 reports strong ELA and math gains, notes science dip under new benchmarks

Dr. Fitzsimmons presented District 67’s 2025 state report-card results and told the board that all six schools in District 67 (and one in District 115) received exemplary ratings on the state’s release. “We are pleased to share that we had a 7.5 percent increase in our proficiency scores with an overall proficiency of 84.3%,” she said, summarizing ELA gains under recently adjusted state benchmarks.
She described math performance as improved by roughly five percentage points, with about 79.8% of students meeting or exceeding standards and the district moving into a higher statewide placement among elementary districts. By contrast, she said the state raised cut scores in science, producing a decline under the new standards to 73.4% and indicated the district will study causes and continue targeted supports in grades K–8. Dr. Fitzsimmons noted work with instructional coaches and the importance of durable skills and the district's portrait of a learner.
Board members asked for school-level detail and were pointed to the fall MAP formative assessments and the district’s posted fall assessment report for granular results. Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Fitzsimmons described earlier interventions, coaching, and schedule adjustments intended to support grade-level transitions and continued monitoring.
