Nutter Fort approves water-rate pass-through tied to Clarksburg increases

The Town of Nutter Fort approved Ordinance 2025-04 on second reading Dec. 9, 2025, to amend the town’s water rate schedule to reflect increases passed by the Clarksburg Water Board. Councilor Rick Lafferty moved to adopt the ordinance and Councilor Charlene Louk seconded; the motion passed unanimously on roll call.
During a public hearing that preceded the vote, a resident asked why rates were rising “at this time of the year when everyone is having a hard enough time paying their bills.” Town representatives responded that the increase is a pass-through from the Clarksburg Water Board rather than a new local decision and that the initial increase had gone into effect Nov. 1, 2025. The town said it had been informed to expect two further increases from Clarksburg next year but that Clarksburg had not provided detailed dollar amounts or a clear link to specific projects at the hearing.
The hearing also included notification of two Clarksburg Water Board public meetings scheduled for Dec. 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., according to the minutes. Council closed the public hearing before taking the adoption vote. The ordinance text as recorded in the minutes is 2025-04.
