Alamo communications and parks departments bring home multiple state awards; athletes honored

City communications staff told the commission their three-person department won eight awards at the Texas communications conference, including four first-place honors, and thanked commissioners for support.
"This includes, for the 1st time in our city's history, 4 1st place wins," communications staff member Leah Yaris said, noting the work reflects many hours of filming, editing and storytelling to keep residents informed. Commissioners congratulated Leah, Nina and Frida for growing the department from one person into a three-person team.
Commissioner Oke reported the Alamo Parks and Recreation Department and two student-athletes were recognized at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation's recent meeting. The TAF named Elisa Cortez City of Alamo female athlete of the year and Victor Martinez City of Alamo male athlete of the year; city staff and the coach described their accomplishments and invited them for a photo. The commission praised both the communications and parks staff for their achievements.
