Alamo adopts ordinance to ban left turns at PSJA Memorial High School north exit during dismissal

The City of Alamo adopted an ordinance (proposed Section 6-4-4(a)) creating a framework for regulated turning lanes and implementing a no-left-turn restriction at the Alma Road junction with PSJA Memorial High School’s north exit during peak dismissal times.
Planning staff said the measure aims to reduce gridlock on Alamo Road by requiring traffic exiting the north driveway to turn north only, using pylons or signage and initial enforcement by personnel if needed. "All the traffic exiting actually out of, the North driveway...has to go north," staff said, adding that the change should make queuing move more smoothly and safely. The Traffic Safety Commission reviewed the proposal Nov. 24 and unanimously recommended adoption. Commissioners discussed requesting PSJA ISD police and local PD assistance for the first week of implementation; the ordinance passed by voice vote.
Staff said the ordinance both defines a generic regulated turning-lane provision in the municipal code and specifically identifies the Alma Road/PSJA high school juncture for the restriction during dismissal periods. Implementation details, including signage and initial enforcement, will be coordinated with police and the school district.
