Allen County commissioners voted unanimously on July 17 to award a rip rap contract to Newell Construction Co. Inc. for $92,682.40 to install about 1,000 tons of large stone on Brobst Road between Edgerton and Woodburn Road. Allen County Highway Director Bill Hartman said the material will firm up washed-out areas, provide stability and erosion control as the road is converted from gravel to a chip-and-seal surface.
Hartman told commissioners Newell's bid was the lowest of three received and was "well under the engineer's estimate of $121,100.00." Commissioner Therese M. Brown moved approval; the motion was seconded and the board voted 3-0 in favor.
