Public Works Director Lauren delivered an extended update on the city’s facility joint‑use agreement with Dixon Unified School District, describing its history, current status and next steps. Lauren said the agreement — originally adopted in 1997 and spanning more than 100 pages of material — was edited and approved by the school district and is scheduled to go before the City Council on Aug. 5. She called it a "very large item" and encouraged commissioners and residents to review the document and provide comment to council if they wish.
Lauren explained that the school district benefits from city facilities (notably heavy pool use) and that the district provides lifeguards for school use while the city pays for chemicals, heating and facility maintenance. "Over 1000000 dollars was contributed to the school district to build that theater," she said, noting the city’s interest in continued access. She said staff will request an annual accounting of hours of use so the council can judge whether the agreement remains balanced. A public commenter urged commissioners to attend the Aug. 5 council meeting and criticized proposed fees the school district would charge for gym access; staff said the agreement will be considered by council and that commissioners can weigh in during the public record.
