Recreation staff report steady summer programs; concrete pool repairs planned for fall

Recreation Supervisor Austin George provided a summer recap and preview of fall offerings. He said swim lessons and rec/lap swim programs ran smoothly after last year’s system transition, with color-coded classes and improved pool office operations easing parent and staff workflows. "Swim lessons have been going well... RecSwim and Lap Swim have been popular," Austin said. He noted the Dickson Dolphins will take a brief break before a fall season and that the high school water polo team begins Aug. 4 and will run into November.
Austin also described planned larger projects for the pool during the off season, including replacing at least sections of the concrete pool surface. He outlined senior-center programming and community events: senior congregate lunch service on Tuesdays and Thursdays (suggested $4 donation), a senior fall-prevention class starting Sept. 3 through Oct. 22, an ice cream social on Aug. 8 at 11:30 a.m., and Movies in the Park returning Sept. 20 through Oct. 11. Staff invited community groups to sponsor the events.
