Parks commission approves moving seven-loop bike rack to Jim B. Stevens Arena

The Parks and Recreation Commission voted to place a seven-loop bicycle rack at the Jim B. Stevens Arena after a staff presentation and public comment. Recreation Supervisor Austin George described four location options and recommended Option 1 in front of the arena because of higher bicycle traffic and minimal retrofit requirements. Austin provided rack dimensions: "it's 6 feet wide, 3 feet tall, 7 loops in that rack." He said staff favored locating the rack away from the arena fence to avoid it being used as a prop for jumping into the fenced area.
During public comment a resident urged commissioners to ensure an accessible clear path of travel to avoid ADA issues and said the senior-center location appeared underused. Commissioners asked staff about existing racks and confirmed several remain at the Little League complex and skate-park areas. A motion to install the rack at the arena was made, seconded and approved by roll call; staff noted a small installation step (adding metal plates to the rack bottoms) before final mounting.
