The Dixon City Council voted unanimously to name the existing neighborhood park at Pitt School Road and Sunflower Way 'Officer Matthew Bowen Memorial Park' in honor of a Dixon resident and Vacaville police officer who died in the line of duty.
City staff said the family supports the request and that nonprofit groups have offered to fund a memorial bench or sign. Vacaville Police Chief Polin spoke on the family's behalf, saying, “we lost Matt on July 11, 2024 in the line of duty,” and noted broad support from allied agencies. Mayor Bird moved to approve the minute action; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call with all members voting aye. Council members discussed fundraising help and potential memorial features before finalizing the action.
