Ottawa County signs engineering agreement for KDOT roadside grant to extend 3-mile segment

A North Central Kansas highway representative told the commission the program requires staging projects in segments. "We're breaking it up to give you guys a better chance of winning the project and getting the grant funding," the presenter said. The board moved and seconded an agreement with Kirkham & Michael; commissioners were told about a roughly $60,000 design fee that will be billed over two years (survey/field work one year, final plans the next) and that construction is anticipated in 2028.
Commissioners approved the agreement and asked county staff to identify which capital or operating line items will cover the engineering fees in the coming budget cycle.
