Putnam commissioners set maximum millage at 8.7418 mills and schedule tentative, final budget hearings

The Putnam County Board of County Commissioners set a maximum general property tax millage rate of 8.7418 mills and a fire MSTU maximum of 1.400 mills during a public hearing and passed a motion to submit required paperwork to the Department of Revenue.
Deputy Administrator Young presented the item, saying, "As, advised, the max millage rate for the general fund is proposed at the same as our current rate of 8.7418 and a fire proposed max millage rate of of 1.4 mills, which is an increase from the current rate of 1.1 mills." A commissioner moved to set those rates and to "approve Doctor 4 20 to be submitted to the Department of Revenue" (motion text per transcript); the motion was seconded, the Chair called for the vote, and the motion carried.
The board also set the tentative budget hearing for Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026 at 5:05 p.m. and the final hearing for Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 at 5:05 p.m., both to take place in the BOCC chambers. The motion specifying dates, times and location passed without recorded roll-call votes. The hearings are the next formal opportunities for comment and formal adoption of millage and the budget.
