The Mount Pleasant City Council voted Aug. 4 to award the Civic Center HVAC condensing unit replacement contract to Wood AC for $121,701.
City building staff reported four bids were received. Staff recommended Wood AC despite a lower alternate bid because Wood AC included a five-year parts warranty and additional copper runs inside and outside the building. "Woods is also adding additional copper runs, to each unit inside and outside the building," staff said, and staff highlighted a fast local response time as a practical benefit.
A council member moved to award the bid to Wood AC; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote. Council members asked about specification parity and were told the bids were "pretty much the same" except for the warranty presentation and some equipment brand differences.
