County explores consolidated small-business web resource after roundtables; SBDC gives regional update

County officials described three small-business roundtables and recommended creating a centralized web resource or portal to gather existing materials from partners (IncubatorWorks, Cornell Cooperative Extension, SBDC, Redevelopment agencies). Speaker S10 said the main barrier is communication access: entrepreneurs often do not know which resource to contact.
Lehi McMahon (speaker S14), regional director for the Southern Tier Small Business Development Center, introduced the SBDC’s scope and cited local service figures: "Last year, we worked with about 112 clients out of Steuben County," he said, adding that the program supported roughly $170,000 of investment in the county so far this year, and about $8.2 million in the last five years. He described SBDC services as free, confidential advising and emphasized partnerships to avoid duplicating services.
