The Buncombe County Board of Adjustment approved a special‑use permit for Christ School on June 10 that permits construction of a new academic building (about 15,000–16,000 square feet) and 12 faculty housing units. Staff presented the PUD‑level 1 application for property at 500 Christ School Road and recommended conditions requiring construction to follow the submitted site plan and to secure required permits prior to site work.
"A couple of key points... there are 12 new residential units. Those are faculty housing units, so these will not be for new instructors. These are for instructors that currently live off campus," said Will Buie, site civil engineer for the project. Applicants (Will Buie, Danny Elmer and Courtney Artis) described building materials, unit mix (single‑family, duplexes, townhomes) and parking; staff and applicants confirmed two parking spaces per residential unit and ADA‑accessible sidewalks and parking will be provided to the academic building. Board members pressed for ADA clarity; the applicant agreed staff will ensure ADA features are included during building review and the board asked staff to incorporate that in the final order.
After deliberation the board adopted findings of fact and approved the permit; staff will prepare and present the order reflecting the agreed conditions.
