"So you apply March 1... they come out and look at your project... and it's nailed down on July 7," Tom said, summarizing the Land & Water Fund’s pre-application and July update steps and noting that county awards that can be shown as committed match help applicants score better in state rounds. Board members discussed patience for matching and potential timing lags if county awards must be secured in a different fiscal year.
Tom said Conserving Carolina has other projects in planning stages and that careful coordination with county staff will make the timing work. Board members agreed this scheduling is important to maximize leverage of county funds for state grant applications.
