RiverLink wins DEQ grant to buy 4.5-acre Swannanoa site for flood-benching and public access

Hannah, speaking for RiverLink, told the Land Conservation Advisory Board that RiverLink received DEQ floodplain-blueprint funding to acquire the 4.5-acre Woodmen Of The World parcel in Swannanoa and implement flood-benching and public access. She said the parcel has long been eyed by the community as potential conserved parkland.
"We are going to be able to acquire and complete a flood benching project on a 4.5 acre parcel in the heart of Swannanoa, what's known as the Woodmen Of The World property," Hannah said. She described partnerships with the Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa, Echoes of the Forest (artists) for gateway installations and Engineers Without Borders for pavilion flood resiliency design. RiverLink expects to begin construction in the fall and said the project fills a long-standing local conservation objective.
The board greeted the update positively and moved on to other agency reports. The project combines flood-mitigation work with public-access goals and local cultural partnerships.
